Relocation Resilience

Support for the stress of international relocation

Relocation to a new country changes more than your address.
It asks you to adapt in every part of your life.

Whether you’re thinking about moving abroad, already deep into the logistics, newly arrived, or have been there for a while and are still finding your footing, relocation can ask more of you than you expected. Relocation Resiliencecan support you wherever you are in the process.

Does this feel familiar?

Things that would normally feel simple are taking more energy than you expected.

You’re making so many decisions that even small ones start to feel like too much.

You miss people, places, routines, and knowing how things work.

You feel less steady, less confident, and less like yourself.

You’re excited about the life you’re creating and surprised by how overwhelmed you sometimes feel.

You thought you’d be enjoying this more than you are.

Even when the move is deeply wanted, your whole system is adapting to change.

Your nervous system is part of the move, too.

In familiar surroundings, much of daily life happens automatically. You know how things work, what to expect, and how to get things done.

Relocation disrupts familiarity long before you arrive.

Planning the move asks you to navigate unfamiliar systems, make countless decisions, and anticipate a life you haven’t lived yet.

And once you arrive, adaptation continues.

In an unfamiliar environment, your nervous system can’t take as much for granted. More of your everyday experiences require attention, interpretation, and response.

Culture shock happens in the body.

Culture shock is usually understood in psychological terms. But there’s a physiological dimension, too. Continuous adaptation takes energy and capacity.

Why My Approach Is Different

My career spans more than three decades at the intersection of the brain, body, communication, and human resilience.

I hold a doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders, with a professional and academic background focused on adult neurological function, neuroscience research, and neurophysiology.

Over the course of my career, I’ve pursued extensive postgraduate training in nervous system regulation, somatic and attachment-focused approaches, and therapeutic yoga and movement.

This breadth allows me to understand adaptation as a whole-person process—one that involves the brain, body, nervous system, relationships, communication, and environment.

Regulation is about expanding capacity.

As a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, I bring another essential piece: an understanding of the nervous system and how we respond to sustained novelty, uncertainty, stress, and change.

Rather than simply helping you cope with greater demands, my work focuses on regulation and expanding capacity to help your system become increasingly able to hold the complexity of your new life without becoming overwhelmed by it.

And I know the experience of international relocation from the inside.

I’ve made an international move myself, building a new life in France. I know firsthand that a move can be deeply wanted, carefully planned, and absolutely the right decision, while still asking far more of us than we had planned.

It complements the practical support you may already have in place by focusing on the human side of relocation: your nervous system, emotional well-being, relationships, sense of identity and belonging, and capacity to adapt to profound change.
