Frequently asked questions

I don’t live in Washington. Can you work with me?

If we both feel it’s a good fit, the answer is yes! I  work with clients in other US states and internationally, too.

I have lots of experience bringing embodiment and somatic work to online sessions. The work is just as transformative, and some clients feel that engaging in therapy in their own resourcing environment has unique advantages over in-person sessions.

Do you take insurance?

I’m not a mental health practitioner, so I’m not able to work with insurance. But I do offer a set number of sliding scale spots.

And there are some advantages to working outside of insurance.

  1. I won’t give you a diagnosis. I look at things through a lens of trauma, attachment, and the nervous system, so I don’t feel that labels are particularly helpful beyond being broadly descriptive.
  2. Your insurance will not have a permanent record of our sessions, giving your healing work an additional layer of privacy.
  3. We’re not limited to a pre-established number of sessions.
  4. We’re able to blend modalities based on the nuances that show up in our sessions without worrying about reimbursement or what your insurance will and will not cover.
  5. We’re free to meet over videoconferencing if you travel or live out of state.

What is a session with you like?

We’ll work with your body and nervous system as it shows up during our appointment. This goes beyond talk therapy, which can actually be retraumatizing when we tell our highly charged stories over and over.

Don’t get me wrong–I’m interested in your past experiences. But we’ll work with the defensive mechanisms, patterns, and held energy in your body from trauma responses that didn’t get a chance to complete.

We’ll track sensations, listen to your body, and engage in intentional movement to give your body a chance to discharge that old, stored trauma energy.

How often do you recommend having sessions?

Everyone is different, and everyone’s timeline is unique. I usually recommend weekly appointments at first, if it’s feasible, so we can establish a rhythm. And usually folks are so ready to begin and start feeling better, and weekly meetings can help harness this energy and build some momentum. We’ll keep checking in about what fits your needs and make adjustments so that you’re feeling supported.

What do I do between sessions?

You may feel tired after a session of working energetically with the body around some potent issues for you. Good self care is paramount between sessions, and we’ll talk about ways you can care for yourself physically and emotionally.
